Ficus carica, more commonly known as the fig, is considered one of the oldest fruits to have been domesticated.
Its origins has been found to be in the Middle East. Evidence shows that the existence of figs can be dated between 11,700 and 10,500 years.
However, the evidence of domestication of the fruit is not dated until later between 8300-7300 B.C., in Gilgal, Jericho, Netiv Hagdud and Gesher in the Jordan Valley, as well as parts of Egypt and the Euphrates Valley.
Red Fig Turkish Tree were then spread from the Middle East to its surrounding neighbors by the Romans and Greeks, and eventually moved across Europe until it finally made it to the Americas.
